CI&T Asia - Singapore
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR CAREER PATH AT ESSILOR?
Alexandra Roos: I joined Essilor R&D in Saint-Maur in 2003 after a doctorate in polymer science. I first worked as a research engineer on thermoset substrates and then on coatings (anti-scratch, anti-glare, anti-smudge). In 2009, I was responsible for coordinating coating programs and participated in the development of products such as Crizal Forte UV. I then had the opportunity to join the CI&T Asia teams in Singapore in 2012, as head of a technical expertise group. Since 2014, I have been in charge of Essilor’s strategic roadmap on myopia.
WHAT ARE THE MAIN MISSIONS IN YOUR JOB NOW?
A. R.:I’m currently in charge of defining a roadmap and action plans to meet the myopia needs of people of all ages in all countries. This work is done in close collaboration with Global Marketing, Intellectual Property and Global Engineering, as well as through collaboration with other group entities and academic partnerships.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR JOB AND WHAT MAKES YOU PROUD TO WORK AT THE ESSILOR GROUP?
A. R.: What I enjoy most is contributing to studies that bring solutions for consumer needs in ever more innovative ways. Today, with a simple pair of glasses we can not only correct vision but also bring quality of life and health benefits. Protecting eyes from UV minimizes the risk of cataracts. Slowing the progression of myopia in children considerably lowers the risk of glaucoma or retinal detachment. Our technical expertise is constantly being challenged: it’s very stimulating.
