Essilor receives the Corporate Social Responsibility Prize from L’AGEFI

“With 61,000 employees and close to 540 production sites in 63 countries, Essilor’s reach stretches to consumers everywhere in the world”, said Essilor International Chief Operating Officer Paul du Saillant. “We maintain high standards in terms of our corporate social responsibility to ensure that we continue to meet all of our stakeholders’ expectations whilst pursuing our long-term sustainable growth.”

Driven by a mission to improve lives by improving sight, as well as by its unique principles and values, Essilor has placed sustainable development at the heart of its strategy and activities for over 170 years. The Company’s unique model of governance celebrates the central role its employees play through the ongoing development of an ambitious employee shareholding policy. Employees have always been Essilor’s largest shareholder and currently own more than 8% of the Company’s capital; three employee shareholder representatives sit on the Essilor Board of Directors. In addition, the majority of employee shareholders are members of the Valoptec Association which participates in the Company’s governance, supports its values and mission and contributes to its long-term growth.

Essilor combines performance in innovation and product quality with a strong commitment to promote access to visual health around the world. Essilor’s Mission division, established in 2013, is the standard-bearer for the Group’s social responsibility commitments and an illustration of Essilor’s constant desire to create shared value by improving access to quality vision care. This is reflected in its numerous campaigns to educate the public about the importance of good vision, and the deployment of inclusive business models and strategic giving initiatives. Since 2013, more than three million people worldwide have been equipped with first-time eyeglasses, notably through initiatives such as the Eye Mitra programme for rural micro-entrepreneurs in India and the Vision Ambassadors programme in China and Brazil.

The Group has also embarked on a continuous improvement process for managing the social and environmental impact of its activities more effectively, ensuring the health and safety of its employees in the workplace and making a responsible contribution to the community at large.
