It was the eleventh edition of the Varilux Festival of French Cinema, an annual event created in 2005 which has over the past eleven years steadily grown in popularity and reach with an estimated 110,000 attendees in 2015.
This year’s festival presented 16 of the latest contemporary French films ranging from comedy, drama to thriller in 50 cities and 91 cinemas across the country. A gala evening in Rio de Janeiro launched the week-long event, in the presence of a number of renowned French directors and actors promoting films including Standing Tall, which opened the 2015 Cannes Film Festival in May.
The festival is one of the most anticipated film events of the year and is a great way to promote French culture and the importance of vision. In addition to a short commercial about Varilux and Crizal products, Essilor produced a special 30 second film clip highlighting the work of its Ver & Viver Institute – part of the Group’s 2.5 New Vision Generation inclusive business division which focuses on bringing vision care to people in need.
Essilor is proud of having sponsored the Varilux Festival of French Cinema with the French Ministry of Culture since its beginnings and to see it enrich and expand its scope to people living beyond major centres right across Brazil.
