Opening of new Red Cross Village in Philippines supported by Essilor
The Red Cross Village has been created in Baragay Paypay in the north of the island of Cebu which was devastated by the typhoon on 8 November 2013. Thanks to the support of the Red Cross and a number of French companies, among them Essilor, 128 houses have been constructed, giving families a housing unit that can withstand 300kmph typhoons or magnitude-7 earthquake.
The inauguration event, nearly 2 years to the date of typhoon Hayian, thanked all those who contributed to the reconstruction of lives and livelihoods in the area. Essilor teams worldwide mobilized quickly in November 2013 to raise money and distribute relief packages.
The Group has joined forces with the Red Cross on several occasions in response to international crises such as the earthquake which shook Nepal in 2015.
