Over recent years Essilor had been exploring the need for an additional coating lab to support increasing customer demand for value-added surface treatments such as anti-reflective coating. Once final studies were completed and the right location identified, a project team spent six months creating the new facility – installing equipment and recruiting and training technical staff.
Essilor Coating Brasília will enable the Group to expand its service in the North and Central West regions of the country that represent a population of around 31m. Essilor currently serves customers across Brazil through an industrial network comprising two production sites linked to over 50 prescription labs and two distribution centers. Given the size and geography of Brazil, careful planning and forecasting across Essilor’s supply chain is required to optimize delivery of finished lenses to eye care professionals in every region.
Over recent years, Essilor has been strengthening its footprint in Brazil to improve its proximity and service to customers: in 2017, Essilor acquired Visolab Produtos Opticos Ltda, a prescription lab in the Northeast state of Sergipe and in 2016 it invested in prescription labs in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.

Essilor has expanded its manufacturing site in the Amazonian region of northern Brazil with a second production facility to offer better vision correction, protection and prevention.
