By taking part in the Movin’On Summit, Essilor reinforces its commitment to safe and sustainable mobility through the importance of good vision on the road and wants to highlight this holistic and collaborative ecosystem approach.
The Movin’On Summit took place from June 1st to 4th in Singapore, Paris and Montreal. The event was a physical and virtual experience, broadcast worldwide. Unofficially known as the “DAVOS of mobility”, this summit gathers key players from the public and private sectors to shape the future of mobility.
The Essilor Group co-announced with the IRF (International Road federation) the creation of a new community of interest: “How do we design for safe and healthy urbanism and mobility?”. As everyone needs to share the road, the importance of vision as a key human factor to enjoy the road safely is essential. This community of interests aims at producing a toolbox and then testing it in some cities. The key players in safe & sustainable mobility are invited to take part in the next steps from July 2021 onwards.
“With the COVID crisis and post-COVID era, we see a major shift in mobility that reinforces the crucial interest of this community. We are observing the booming of new transportations means: bikes doubling in the cities, but also scooters and pedestrians too often glued to their smartphones… All these road users together with cars are crowding the streets in all directions. The situation will multiply with people getting back on the road again. More than ever the human factor is a key part of the equation that will enable us to ensure that urban mobility is safe” adds David Navarro, Vice-President on the Vision on the Road Group Plan.
With up to 90% of the information coming through our eyes, good vision is critical to make decisions on the road. Essilor is strongly committed to global efforts for safe mobility, and has been partnering with main world organizations like the FIA, the United Nations Road Safety Fund, Michelin, and now this community in Movin’On with IRF, ITDP (Institute for Transportation and Development) and YOURS (Youth for Road Safety)… Together we are taking action for safer roads around the world.
