Opening of new Center for Innovation & Technologies (CI&T) China
Launched on December 3, this Center for Innovation & Technologies (CI&T) will accelerate the foray of the world’s leading eye optometry technologies in the Chinese market and drive the Group’s development with innovations catered specifically to the needs of local consumers. Positioned as Essilor’s fifth R&D Centre in the world alongside the ones located in France, Ireland, USA and Singapore, CI&T China will be focusing on myopia management, digitalization and will facilitate the marketing of new products that are pertinent to the local market.
A renewed contract with Wenzhou Medical University
On November 5, Essilor confirmed its commitment to fight the global epidemic of myopia with the extension of its contract with the Wenzhou Medical University in China. Members of WEIRC (Wenzhou Medical University Essilor International Research Centre)’s scientific committee gathered to review the status of ongoing research and discuss new scientific orientation of the center, such as future myopia control clinical trials and myopia prediction models. Essilor Group has been working with Wenzhou Medical University since 2014 to develop an onset prediction model for young children. This attracted a lot of attention when it was shown at the China International Import Exhibition in November in Shanghai.
Essilor’s technology a hit at 2nd China International Import Expo
Essilor Group participated again at the second annual China International Import Expo (CIIE), held from 5 – 10 November at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, China. Essilor’s stand focussed on eye health and the delivery of new, advanced industry instruments. The 108-square-meter exhibition area was built into an “eye health experience center” integrating screening, refraction, education and solutions, providing consumers with more comprehensive eye health management solutions.
Two new Essilor devices made their Asia-Pacific debut at this year’s booth:
- The VOX: equipped with an intelligent optical measurement system, it provides precise and personalized matching measurement services according to the eye characteristics of each wearer. The device effectively analyzes the wearer’s natural posture, eye habits and near-far vision behavior using exclusive, patented H3D technology to ensure accurate and comfortable eyewear;
- The Eyeviz 300: a comprehensive ophthalmic diagnostic device designed specifically with young consumers in mind. The Eyeviz 300 performs comprehensive binocular screening—including binocular visual analysis, stereoacuity, eye deviation, color vision, monocular suppression, and beyond—all in a more fun and interactive way than traditional screening equipment.
From 5 to 10 November, Essilor took part in the first CIIE (China International Import Expo). The event provided a perfect platform for Essilor to introduce a new eyecare model allowing for better management of visual health, as well as showcase some of its key solutions.
Essilor joined more than 300 world experts for the 15th International Myopia Conference held 24-27 September in Wenzhou, China, to explore the causes, prevention and control of myopia.
