The three-day event was organized by the World Council of Optometry (WCO) and FEDOPTO (Colombian Federation of Optometry) with the aim of exchanging experiences on optometric services and creating an action plan to standardize optometric qualifications and grow education worldwide. The conference program was wide-ranging covering medical, scientific, marketing, education to social impact topics.
Speakers from Essilor and the Vision Impact Institute also participated in the invitation-only Presidential Forum alongside optometry leaders, NGOs (including the World Health Organization) and other influential stakeholders on how best to prepare and mobilize resources for the global health agenda.
Essilor supports the global optometry community through its dedicated education centres, such as The International Vision Academy in Singapore, Essilor Academy Europe in Paris, or programs such as Vision Link in Asia-Pacific, Middle-East, Africa and Russia. The World Congress of Optometry is a bi-annual event – the next will take place in Hyderabad, India in September 2017.
