How Essilor develops the talents serving the global eyecare industry

Essilor’s success relies on 64,000 employees who, in their different job areas, design, manufacture and market the products and services that improve lives by improving sight. Given the complexity of this international network of individuals with different backgrounds and expertise, training and development is key in helping people understand all aspects of our business. Essilor invests in a range of learning and development programs structured around education, exposure and experience to boost skills, develop talent and open doors to varied career paths in the Group.

Education and training
Essilor U – an online portal with a catalogue of over 700 in-house courses – is an important component in our education and training. Employees have access to both a common core (including culture, principles and values, mission, strategy, compliance etc) as well as job-specific courses such as auditing, sales, marketing, IT etc. Everyone can follow a personalized training path according to their business sector, geographical area and seniority. The platform is also open to external content from leading training providers.
In addition, Essilor has a number of job or region-specific training programs. Read more about our community of 2000 Essilor ‘LOFT’ experts helping spread technical skills and share best practices across the Group’s labs and production sites.

Developing talents
To support new managers and future leaders Essilor also conducts blended learning programs. One example is a General Management Program run in partnership with three management schools (ESSEC in Europe, Nanyang Business School in Asia and McCombs School of Business in the Americas) and including Harvard Business Publishing online content. It combines a common curriculum with local components to help managers develop leadership skills through practical approaches to strategy, marketing, finance, innovation and change management.
Beyond education, exposure and experience are key principles in how we offer all talents great professional challenges and enriching, diverse career paths in a multi-cultural, international environment. An example of this is our Emerging Talent Program where young graduates gain wider experience and learn specific skills, for example in business or finance, through job rotation.
