Over the past five years the Group has invested significantly in local partners in Africa and now has 13 entities, 3 labs and 42 branches across the North and West of the continent. One of these is Essilor SIVO, a company created in 1969 by Abdelaziz Sellami and which joined the Group in 2012. Essilor SIVO is headquartered in Tunisia and has a network of companies in 8 countries across Africa. Building on 45 years’ experience supporting eyecare professionals to meet a diversity of vision needs, Essilor SIVO has grown from a simple workshop for the surfacing and treatment of optical lenses to an industry leader on the continent, providing a complete offer from lenses, frames to optical instruments.
Combining its technical expertise with the innovation and logistics strength of the Group, Essilor SIVO continues to expand into sub-Saharan Africa, in total alignment with Essilor’s overall strategy and its mission of improving lives by improving sight. It recently opened offices in the Democratic Republic of Congo and in early April launched a roadshow that will take its teams to meet customers in countries from Senegal, Ivory Coast, to Burkina Faso and Cameroon over the coming months. Essilor SIVO has also begun the pan-African launch of its Neo Max range of lenses designed to the evolving needs of consumers in today’s digital lifestyles, in particular to protect them from harmful blue light.
Essilor SIVO is highly active in community vision health: in 2014 the company led a national campaign with the Essilor Vision Foundation, travelling 2000 km across Tunisia visiting villages to run local screening and dispensing for 1,500 children. In March this year, Essilor SIVO managed a vision care campaign in Algeria, supported by Essilor’s Vision for Life social impact fund. Thanks to a large musical event, led by national TV star Cheb Yazi, over 1,500 children were screened and one third equipped with glasses.
