Magnifying aids are used to help a visually impaired person perceive details and regain the ability to do activities like reading. The simplest of these is the handheld magnifier.
Handheld magnifiers are the simplest tools to use for magnifying objects such as text, phone numbers, store labels… The more power a magnifying glass has, the more it reduces a user’s field of vision. Choosing a magnifier is therefore a compromise between magnification and the size of the lens, in order to read with the necessary visual comfort.
Manufacturers offer a large variety of magnifiers: from small illuminated hand magnifiers owned by the vast majority of people who are visually impaired because of their ease of use in daily activities, to illuminated pivotingmagnifiers or illuminated stand magnifiers that facilitate magnification up to 10x or 12x.
