The optical surface (or design) determines the correction of the lens. The optical surface optimizes visual acuity, i.e. the distance of discernment. There are as many designs as there are visual corrections.

The different types of optical surface

The power of the lens varies smoothly with no break-point between:

  • the upper part which is used for far vision.
  • the lower part of the lens which is used for near vision;

The lens provides two distinct zones of correction:

  • the upper part, used for far vision.
  • the lower part of the lens, used for near vision;
