Testimonials

Pauline ColasWhat is your job?

  • I am a research manager in the Computer Engineering and Optics department, which designs new ophthalmic lenses and the software for developing them.

What does your work involve?

  • I run and take part in research programs concerning the optical performance of ophthalmic lenses, in order to improve the correction and visual comfort offered to wearers.
As a designer, I also take part in projects to develop new products.

What topics do you work on?

  • I am working on improving design methods, particularly areas relating to lens calculation.
The design calculation for a lens, particularly a progressive lens, is the precise definition of the two surfaces of the lens to meet the wearer’s physiological needs in all everyday situations.
These surfaces are then manufactured using very precise procedures to ensure the design is respected.

How are these topics innovative?

  • By including in lens calculation an increasing number of criteria relating to wearers (e.g. reading distance, position of the eye’s center of rotation, etc), as well as their environment, and having increasingly effective calculation tools allows Essilor to offer wearers ever more innovative products.
