Our challenges
Our mission is to improve and correct vision, which requires a commitment to high standards of quality and innovation. The responsibilities of our leadership position are to be exemplary in the way we do business, but also to act to the benefit of society as a whole within our local communities and towards individuals.
This has always inspired the group's culture and its commitment to responsible growth.
Access to improved vision - our main challenge
It is estimated that there are currently 2.4 billion people in the world who need visual correction but who do not receive it. Because seeing better means living better, Essilor has established numerous screening and information initiatives and all around the world the company has established actions to improve eyesight. The Essilor Vision Foundation's slogan "better life through better sight" shows the group's commitment to proactively seeking out those who do not have access to vision care.
Social and environmental responsibility
In 2010, for the fourth consecutive year, Essilor assessed the contribution made by sustainable development criteria to the group's overall performance.
The Global Value®* rating - combining aspects of financial and extra-financial performance - currently indicates that the group benefits significantly from its governance and it's environmental and social commitments. The group's governance improved again this year, thereby contributing to its strong overall performance.
*In 2010, Essilor's Global Value® rating was 1.29, an increase of 0.02 points compared with 2008. Global Value® is a trademarked analysis model from BMJ Ratings.
