Commitments

Acting as a responsible company

Leadership and commitment

Essilor has long been committed to a policy of responsible growth in line with its corporate mission: to allow as many people as possible to see the world better. The challenge of access to visual health is by definition one of its sustainable development objectives.

Essilor firmly believes that being a leader imposes special responsibilities. That is why, over the last decade, the group has set up a Sustainable Development Department to formalize its commitment.

Environmental awareness

Essilor acts to reduce the environmental footprint of the company and its products. Practical targets for reducing, recycling and reusing resources are set and implemented via programs and action plans.

The establishment of certified management systems highlights the company's commitment to reducing its environmental impact. The results speak for themselves. Since 2005, all the group's production plants have ISO:14001 environmental certification.

People as the priority

Employee involvement is at the heart of Essilor's culture - originally a workers' cooperative, the group has retained this participative governance approach through its employee shareholding scheme.

Respect for the fundamental human values has always come easily to Essilor. In 2003, it was one of the first French companies to sign up to the UN Global Compact. The group's globalization has made it possible to offer social cover to all employees.

Essilor acts to manage the health and safety of its employees in the workplace. Concrete targets are set and implemented in these fields. As with the environment, the company's commitment to this issue is demonstrated through the establishment of certified management systems The results are clear. Since 2005, all the group's production plants have OHSAS:18001 certification.

In India, Madagascar, Brazil, Africa and the United States via the Essilor Foundation, the group works to help disadvantaged communities to provide them with access to visual health, through awareness-building, screening, sight tests and equipment.
