Employee shareholding
Employee shareholders
Because Essilor's success is everyone's responsibility, employee shareholders play a fundamental role in the group and nearly a quarter of all employees are now group shareholders.
Values rooted in our business culture
Employee's shareholding has always been an integral part of the group's identity. Today, employees hold 8% of the capital (a quarter of our employees are shareholders in the Group) and 14% of the voting rights.
Essilor's success
Essilor's market value has been multiplied by 160 since 1978 and by 40 since 1991. This success is down to one essential factor: employees holding a share of the corporate capital.
Financial investment, personal involvement
Holding shares in the business deeply alters the relationship between employees and their company. It generates a stronger commitment, provides remuneration and allows the constitution of savings. The fact that our employees own part of the Group's capital is vital for the future of the business; employee shareholders are more involved and more responsible.
A new criterion of business efficiency
Since 4 December 2006, Essilor has been on the Euronext FAS IASĀ® index which measures the financial performance of companies that have large-scale employee participation. Based on the same methodology as the French CAC 40 index, the Euronext FAS IASĀ® index aims to keep track in a comprehensive manner of companies whose employees own significant share capital, while offering investors and issuers the means to assess and compare market performance to that of other quoted companies.
A dedicated organization
Employee investments are managed directly by an internal service that guarantees optimal distribution of information to employees and retirees.
Essilor employees can become shareholders through different investment schemes:
by acquiring shares in different employee mutual funds (FCPE) or via trusts;
by purchasing shares personally;
by exercising stock options;
by allocation of free performance shares.
Localized solutions
In order to adapt to local specificities and legislations, a number of different investment funds have been set up around the world:
PEE plans
(five and seven years) for French employees and expatriates;
Valoptec International and Essilor International mutual funds
covering many countries in the Group (Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Canada, Thailand etc.);
different
local investment plans
in the UK, Australia, USA, Ireland and South Korea;
various
share purchase programs
in Spain, Italy, Austria, Brazil, Taiwan, China, South Africa, etc.
