Myopia
What is myopia?
Myopia is an eyesight problem mainly caused by the eye being "too long", meaning the distance between the cornea and the retina is too great. In such cases, the image forms just in front of the retina, which means a myopic has trouble seeing things far away, but not close up. The more the person is nearsighted, the more he/she must approach an object to distinguish it clearly.
Correcting myopia
There are three levels of myopia:
mild myopia, from 0 to -2 diopters;
moderate myopia, from -2 to -6 diopters;
high myopia, from -6 to -20 diopters
A diopter is a unit used to describe problems with eyesight and the lens used to correct them.
Myopia can be corrected by means of a divergent lens, i.e. a lens that is thinner in the center and thicker at the edges. This lens, also called a negative or concave lens, is designed to refocus the image on the retina and restore good eyesight at infinitum.
The higher the myopia the heavier and thicker at the edge the lens will be, which is unattractive, uncomfortable and limits the choice of frames.
Solutions for your myopia
Recent advances mean we can offer you very light lenses, with increasingly thin edges. Gone are the days of lenses which are too thick and too heavy - you can enjoy wearing glasses which enhance your look.
For mild and moderate myopias:
Essilor Stylis®
lenses: slim and aesthetic;
Essilor Ormix®
lenses: performance and comfortable;
