As a genuine laboratory for innovation, Essilor’s Research and Development unit is the corporation’s strategic cornerstone. The unit is the guarantor of the Group’s technological progress.

A corporation with 590 patent families and 4,200 patents
At the end of 2006, the Group held title to 590 patent families representing a total of about 4,200 individual patents and pending patents in France and abroad.

 

 

Telling results

• 50 % of Essilor’s income is generated by products launched less than 5 years ago
• 30 % of Essilor’s income is generated by products launched less than 3 years ago
• 60 new products were developed in 2006
• in the space of just a few years: the number of new products launched has seen a threefold increase and manufacturing lead times have been halved
