Live Life in the Clear

For the most transparent lens ever, Essilor developed the Crizal line of lens coatings. They deliver ultimate clarity by eliminating the main enemies of clear vision - glare, smudges, dust and scratches.

Over 200 millions Crizal lenses have been sold worldwide since the technology was introduced in 1992.

History

In 1967, Essilor developed its first coatings, for glass lenses.
In 1992, the launch of Crizal revolutionized existing plastic-lens coatings thanks to its anti-scratch and anti-smudge properties.
Since then, the range of Crizal coatings has steadily evolved, integrating the latest technological advances in order to meet wearers’ primary expectation : clear vision.
1992: Launch of Crizal coating
2003: Introduction of Crizal Alizé with enhanced anti-smudg properties
2006: Launch of Crizal A2, with antistatic properties that repel dust
2009: Introduction of Crizal Forte, the most advanced product on the market with unparalleled scratch resistance.

Properties

Crizal provide unsurpassed visual clarity by eliminating the four enemies of clear eyesight: glare, smudges, dust and scratches.

  • Anti-reflective properties

Optimized eyesight with better contrast during the day and enhanced vision comfort at night.
An attractive appearance
In some light conditions, bothersome reflections can appear on the surface of an uncoated lens but not on a Crizal lens.

  • Anti-smudges properties

Crizal’s hydrophobic (water-repellent) and oleophobic (grease-repellent) properties prevent smudges from spreading accross the lens. This makes lenses more stain-resistant and easier to clean.

  • Anti-dust properties

Standard lenses attract dust because of static electricity, which is even more present when lenses are being cleaned. The Crizal lens’ antistatic properties repel dust.

  • Anti-scratch properties

The lens surface is highly susceptible to scratches, which adversely affect vision quality. Crizal lenses provide unrivalled scratch resistance and optimal visual clarity.

Crizal lenses have proven highly popular with users because they provide greater transparency and enhanced visual comfort.

Technology

The Crizal range of lens coatings are based on state-of-the-art technological solutions. Perfectly integrated, these solutions enable coatings that are compact, uniform, and durable and yet thinner than a single hair.

Crizal coatings are composed of several optimized components:

- A series of thin mineral-based layers that eliminate interference, thereby reducing glare.
- The lens surface is coated with a layer that is fully hydrophobic and oleophobic. This prevents grease and water from sticking to the lens and ensures easy cleaning.
- An antistatic component is added to these layers to make the lens dust-repellent.
- The primer guarantees perfect adhesion between the substrate (the lens) and the hard coating. It is also improves impact resistance.
- The hard coating uses nanocomposite technology to increase scratch resistance.

Geographical distribution zones

Sold around the world, Crizal coatings are available in most Essilor prescription laboratories.
